I have not messed with them, I don't like auto anything on my truck.
I do seem to remember there are some vacuum lines that should be blocked off after you remove the auto lockers though.
Thanks Dave,
I almost forgot that part.
My Auto Hubs are out now. The current issue is with getting the new Warns go go in.
It seems that I am just an RCH from making it on far enough to set the clip at the end of the axel shaft.
I am hoping that it is just some dirt in the locknut ot thrust washer areas. My driveway is not the most sterile of work surfaces.
Anyway dinner out tonight and a Ski trip tomorrow prevents me from working on this again until Sunday. Assuming I don't wear myself out on the slopes tomorrow.
when i updated my 79 f250 to warn premium hubs, i had to push the axle stub out from the back side while pushing the hub internals in and then attaching the clip. Now the trick is to do all three things with two hands and then the clips should go on easily.

That trick is actually offered in the Warn installation instruction. I had the help of my 19yo son and we Still were ever so slightly not quite far enough out.
I was so frustrated I almost pulled the Thrust Washers out to make room....but undoubtedly they have thier purposes for being there.
If you lodge a prybar in there (by the axle joint) just right, it will hold the axle shaft out enough to get that clip on. That's how I do it on mine. Congrats on the warn manual lockouts. Never a complaint with mine. If you look at my sig you can see that I pretty much punish mine with a 6.9 and 38's. I've broke some, but always save the pieces, many a time now I've been able to repair mine out of spare parts. Are yours the smaller 1/2 ton or light 3/4 ton, or are they the larger heavy duty ones? I know that the lighter duty ones (like mine-it has the lighter TTB stock) warn has are pretty much identical to the ones ford had on there stock. That's why i chose them, plus they are so easy to work on if you've done it a couple times.
i agree with the warn being a good choice. My 67 bronco with 90k still has the original warn premium (with brass dial) hubs that were new from the factory. they still work good, no problems at all. I just cleana nd grease them from time to time. That is why I installed a set on my 79 F250. It had the cheaper warns with the plastic dial and one of the dials broke, but I still have the rest of the hubs if anyone is in need of parts

Thanks for the tip.
My son and I actually tried prying out the axel while fighting the clip in and still came up short. (story of my life)
I have no idea which is light duty or heavy duty. The truck has a Dana 50 under it and it is Diesel F-250 which supposedly means Heavy Duty everywhere.
barehugs i was just making sure on those 4 matching tires, ive seen it before that people dont know to much about 4x4s and theyll run anything on them. and wonder why they have trouble with there truck.

Slipped the lockers in...Pried out the axel shaft...popped the small snap ring in and with a light *click* it set right in.
Next the outer keeper ring....No friggin luck!
Pushed..Pulled...Tapped gently with other tools...Nothing would get the large portion of the locker in far enough to get the large keeper ring in place.
The instructions told me to put the "thrust washers" back in. If i had left ehm out everything would have fit in very nicely. By thrust washers I mean: thin steel washer, thin plastic washer, and thin steel washer with inner serrations to go over the axel shaft.
Can I throw any part of these 3 things away and not totally screw everything up?
Can anyone help me out???
Next step is pull everything out and start the process over. Would rather avoid that.
Too friggin cold out to be messing with it more than necessary.
Do you have the "perforated" washers and one with a little tit on it? And if so, do you have the little tit aligned correctly so as to go in one of the holes? This screw up can cost about 1/8th of an inch. I can't think of anything else that could be holding you up, and I've done enough of these I could almost do them in my sleep!

Yes I have all of that and triple checked everything as I did that part of the install.
I can't imagine if that pry bar is lodged in, holding the stub out, and if you knew what I meant on the washers, they almost have to be right, what could possibly be holding it from giving you the clearance you need.
Have you asked the guys in off road and 4x4? I have pretty much been there done that with the 4x stuff, and I have to say I'm stumped. Wish I was close enough to look at it.

Thanks for the ideas.
I have managed to get the small snap ring clip in this time now it is the outer spring keeper ring
The only thing I ccan think of is some kind of debris is holding the axel nuts out ever so slightly and it is just enough to keep me from getting my clearance
