I hear a noticable clunk when I apply the breaks. I thought it was a U-joint and replaced them but it didnt fix the problem. Sounds like it is coming from the passenger side rear, might be front I cant tell for sure. A basic inspection doesnt reveal anything obvious. You guys have any ideas or advice?
look for broken brake springs, broken shoes, brake fluid and rear axle lube leaks into brakes, shocks and worn out A arm bushings top, bottom and ball joints....
jack front and back rt sides up 1 at time and check all
also closely check coil springs for cracks and total breaks especially near ends....forum users have been reporting more broken springs as this model passes the 10 year newest mark...these are top heavy narrow vehicles that put high force levels on suspension components
I had a clunking from my previous aero turned out to be a loose brake pad, i thought the ball joints were bad ,when i checked, i saw the pad was loose.
When I backed up and applied the brakes I had a clunk in the right front.turned out to be a worn out upper A frame bushing Wasnt really that hard to fix.
Not to lead anyone in the wrong direction, but we used to have a clunk if we made hard right hand turns. We thought is was a suspension component or a problem in the differential. Turned out to be a loose exhaust hanger.
What's with these right front clunks? I have one too when I make sharp right turns on uneven roads sometimes. My right tire is worn on the outer edge but the alignment is good.

Assuming your suspension parts are good and your alignment is within specs, most cars will wear out the outer edge of the right front tires faster. The dynamic camber characteristics of the Aero's front suspension rolls the tire on the outside of a turn under, wearing out the outside edge, and we all tend to take left turns faster than right here in the US.
Dunno about the clunks though. I have a kind of clicking sound when I turn the wheels while stationary, like in a parking spot. I used to think it was because one of the front axle hanger brackets was cracked. But the noise is still there after I repaired the bracket, so that wasn't it. I checked with some difficulty the bushings on the steering rack, but found nothing obvious. So it remains unsolved until it gets worse.
