hello evey one new name old member. my truck wont start unless pluged in or warm from running. average temp 15-20 night 40 day. i have read many posts on subject, few differences every one talks about blowing white smoke mine is bluesh black, clears up after start ???? i have changed fuel lines,O rings,checked starter, battries and did a quick check on gp(6 months old) with test light, can hear gpr clicking. wts light stays on for about 12-15 sec. when i do get it to start i have to pump the pedel. started a while a go getting worse. dont know what else to check any ideas ?? 1990 F-250 4X4 7.3 ,ats turbo, 3" exhaust, std trans
change your gp relay, my truck was acting all retarded until I changed it. I was having starting issues too. Its only 20$ for the relay...cant hurt to try.
I would rather test the component than simply replace it..
Jump the contacts on it for 30-40 seconds and then have someone try to start it. If she fires right up then you need to replace it. If it is still a hard start then I would look for air leak problems(hard start after sitting for a couple of hours hot or cold).
Try this before doing much else. Clean the ground wire contact on the controler relay. This is the black wire which is attached to a small bolt on the relay. Clean where it contacts on the bolt and where it contacts the intake manifold. On mine I also ran a separate wire from the black wire bolt to the (-) on the battery to be sure to have a great ground. this seems to have solved a lot of starting problems for me.
