head gasket 2000 Explorer
On my 2000 Explorer 4L V6 (with about 82,000mi): Was told that the head gasket should be replaced and the cylinders checked for possible "machining" (sorry, I think that's how it was put). I am wondering, would the problem with the head gasket cause issues with the cylinders or is this just a preventive thing to do while it is disassembled? Also, does $1700 for the head gasket seem like a lot of money for this repair? I got the quote from a small business mechanic but I am wondering if a Ford dealership can do it faster and therefore cheaper. Any thoughts?
