I just had AAMCO rebuild my 4r100 last week. I couldn't afford a BTS or anything else better. I had them install a 3-disc TC and a shift kit. Since I got it back, here are the problems I am having, that I didn't have before the tranny got "fixed"
- 1-4 second delay before reverse engages
- delayed shifting into third, and it makes a shift like feel (bump) and a slight pause around 2300 rpm, but still keeps going to 3000 rpm before it shifts, if it shifts at all
- tonight one time the TC didn't lock up till about 47mph, usually it locks at 35 mph.
Before it got rebuilt, it would shift very predictably at around 2500 rpm at moderate acceleration. Now, it's like throwing darts in the dark. I can't even use my Diablosport because it plays hell on the shift kit (I'm guessing) I just need to know what the hell is going on so I can approach the AAMCO guy with good knowledge. If you guys ever need help fixing anything that flies I'll getcha back!
Thanks!!
You should just try bringing it back to Aamco and telling them these problems. I'm not a tranny expert, but I do know there are some adjustable things like bands and linkages. But since you paid good money for it to rebuilt, you should have them tweak it for you. Good luck with it.
Thanks PHLWEE- it's justthat last time I took it back (the day after I got it) he cleared the code and gave me a kind, but generic response. I'm going back tomorrow no matter what the heck I know about it, my terms or his terms, he will know about the problem!
sounds like the valve body is not right, this along with the solenoid pack is basically what controlls when and how the trans. shifts, the mechanicals in the trans. can be installed correctly (steels, fibers, bushings etc) but if the valve body is fricked up the thing will shift screwed up or not at all or delayed etc. I think the delayed shift into R is a known prob. with 4r100, prob. is even if the trans. is ok and its just the solenoid pack and or valve body those are about $600 for the pair.
