Amp gage question ?
I just purchased a 66 Bronco speedo cluster on Ebay for my 65 F100. It appears to be exactly like the round speedo in my truck, however the new gage has real amp and temp gages instead of the lights I currently have. The back of the new amp gage has me puzzled. There are no terminals to attach wires to, just a band of steel wrapped in an insulator that attaches on either end to the back of the gage. It forms a loop with no obvious place to connect wires.
Is this an inductive connection where I just run a wire through the loop and it picks up the current in the wire via induction? I've seen amp meters that worked like that. If not, I have no idea how to connect the amp gage.
Any input ?
Thanks.
John.

I replaced my stock amp gauge with an autometer. My stock amp gauge wire ran from one side of the starter relay through back of gauge and back to opposing post on starter relay. I remember this because when i put the new gauge in & tossed the old wire my truck wouldnt start until i ran a short jumper wire to the two posts on starter relay. Dont know if this is proper procedure but its worked for years.
