fuel tank problems

I have a 1990 F-250 super duty with duel tanks. I am in Mexico. I am having a problem getting the diesel into the tank. I can only dribble it in. It seems like the air in the tank is not getting out as I pump the diesel in. Where are the breather lines and how would you all suggest I clean them out?
Thanks

cornking,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

The fill tube has a vent tube inside it.
I took mine out several years ago, it fills faster than it did.

There is also a vent tube on top of the tank to let air into the tank as fuel is used.
Several people have used that location to mount an external vent tube which they run parallel to the fill tube, then tap it back into the fill tube right below the cap.

The second route lets you run fuel in faster, but you still have to vent the tank to let the fuel out as you use it. The caps are non vented caps.

Now I have the aswere to a question I have never thought to ask, My back tank will create a Vacume while in use, I thought it was a defective cap. (Every time I losen the cap I can hear it sucking air) I will now look for the vent tube and find how it's restricted. Any ideas were the tube should be routed to. 93, 2 diesel tanks, back tank vent tube?

flyboyd8,
The vent tube is inserted into the top of the rear tank, mounts about in the middle.
The vent tube is usually clipped to the top of the cross member at the front of the tank. It has a check valve in the vent to stop fuel from leaking out in roll over accidents. If you are off road much, you probably have mud in the end of the tube blocking it.

For a while when the server was overloaded, they turned signatures off for people with less than 25 posts.

Since you have more than 25 now you may need to re-enter your signature information.

I was not able to remove the internal vent tube. Is there a way to remove the check valve and use the vent tube at the top of the tank to work both ways (let air in and out)?

The check valve is built into the plastic fitting that goes into the top of the tank.
Several members have used PVC pipe fittings (those barbed fittings you use with clamps to run water lines) and reworked the vent with larger tube and no check valve.
The down sides to that are if the truck ever gets turned over the fuel will drain out the vent since there is no check valve and if you fill the tank above the level of the vent the fuel will run out the vent.

Well I had to fabricate a whole new filler pipes. Part of the problem was that , here in mexico, the nozzles on the pumps were to big for the filler pipe. So I had pull the pipe assemblies off a mexican truck, and run a vent tube along side the filler pipe. Now id works like a charm.
Thanks for the help
