How long does a 5.0 engine last?

First timer here!! I'm looking at a '94 E-150 van on eBay and it has 140k miles on it. I'm wondering how much life this motor still has in it??
Also, any thoughts on the transmission?? I believe it's an AODE.

thanks,
Elvin

I say it will run for 141,000.00 mile and then stall at a stop light and never run again, the transmission will be sold to a little old lady for 300.00 and will last another 25,000.00 miles.

....LOL

I agree that 200,000 is possible. If it has been used hard then you would get a lot less of course.

In the mid eighties engines if you tow large loads with it often they seem to be prone to breaking the crankshaft. In other words they aren't really meant to tow large loads but that shouldn't be too much of an issue in a van. They may have overcome the breaking cranks too between the mid eighties and ninetys.

The block is usually still good after the crank breaks though. I had one engine that broke two over 300,000 miles and two rebuilds. I towed a 24 foot gooseneck all over the US with it too though so those were 300,000 very hard miles. I have seen one other break on a different pickup also.

79 302 - 250,000 miles
95 5.0 - 180,000 miles
Both still run smooth and strong and burn little or no oil.

Once you get over 100K it depends on the care the motor receved. If it was taken care of 200K is no problem. I have seen many.

My experience has been around 140k. Now lil old ladies who drive crown vics may get 300k.

The 92 i just bought went at 140k. Still ran but had low comp and leaked oil back out the intake into the airbox. (bought it knowing it had a bad motor for $400.00)

My 86 fulie lost all oil pressure at idle at 130k but would make decent pressure when driving down the road , and had a valve stick at 145k. and broke the timing chain.

We have a GT40 spec 5.0 pushing 140K. It has great oil pressure, doesn't burn any oil, and still gets about 285 HP at the rear wheels. Should we do a pre-emptive tear down?

I have a 94 F150 I just bought with 181,000 miles, the motor is very strong with great oil pressure. I would say they will last well over 200,000 miles if maintianed.

i just turned out 253,000 hard miles out of my 94 351w. when we flipped it over on the engine stand, removed the rod ends, 2 pistons fell out on there own. it was slap wore out. ran great but had so much blow-by. it would blow the dipstick out the engine.
