This is just for fun, cuz I know it's a hot debate that comes up on a more than regular basis...The 302 being underpowered, etc, blah-blah!
Yesterday at work, a tractor trailer (53' w/ a sleeper, empty load) struggled to get into our lot, and instead attempted to get a better angle by going into the field across from us. Needless to say, he got himself stuck pretty good, and was straddling the access road causing good traffic backup and pi$$ing everyone off. Time to call in the Bronco for help! Only thing to do was pull him all the way into the field instead of having his trailer blocking traffic. Cops showed up to assist. Heavy duty tow straps from my hitch to his frame - me in 4lo and all fours in mud was pretty fun peppering him with mudballs(barring any hidden damage I've just done to my truck - fingers crossed). Anyway, did a better job than I thought. With him giving it hell and me pulling, it was successful enough to get him off the road altogether. Big tow had to come in after that, but it was quite an experience for the mighty 302. Wish I would have got pics - had to be a sight to see a Bronco pulling a semi. The guy was only minutes from getting a ticket. He's got a hefty tow bill though.
Yeah, tough trucks for sure, and 4lo rocks - I'm sure it was pretty funny to see though, as it looked like a toy truck in front of the semi. By far the biggest thing I've pulled. Made me realize, again, why I drive a Bronco!!
Ha-ha, yep - irrigation ditches for sure!!
I'd like to hear some other "pull 'em out" stories or pics. Just reinforces the Bronco legacy!
Underpowered my ***. I can pull more power from my 302 then almost any 351w. The 302 is an awesome motor and with bronco in 4lo like muckypaws said you could pull a house. I almost had a chance to try that once in my 85 a trucker slid into a ditch on an icy road but he was to pigheaded to even let me try. Great story it is a shame you didn’t get any pics.
Two winters ago I used my 79 FS Bronco to pull a 2.5 ton Chevy Tow Truck out that was stuck in my back lane.
This winter in my 89 I drug a Suburu AWD car out of the ditch (and along the ditch for 250 yards through ruts and all!) - he thanked me in a big way - a 66 of my favorite brand! lol
