Head Idenification?

I have a 72 LTD Brougham with a 429 in it. I seen on this site that there are 2 sets of heads that came on the 429's. What is different about them and how can I find which I have (where do I look on the head)

Thanks,
rollinlow&slow

look for a castin number that starts with a D.if its a 72 itll be d2 with some other letters behind it like VE. all the casting number start out with a letter followed by a number the letter is the decade and the number is the year in that decade c=60's D=70's

if its d2ve-aa then theyre garbage, if theyre d2oe then theyre the police interceptor heads and are pretty good... those are the only heads that were standard on a 429 in 1972. if the engine was swapped or the heads changed theyll be fine too... the only bad 429/460 head was the d2ve.

just look between the exhaust manifold and the valve cover, just above the third spark plug on the drivers side, second on the passenger side- theres the casting number
