300 efi into 79

I've got a very tight 79 f-250 with 4 speed manual. It currently has the original 70,000 mile 351m that has given me nothing but fits. At the moment the left head gasket leaks a little and the rear oil seal is leaking. I've driven an EFI 4.9 with a 5 speed and thought that it would be sweet to have that drive train in my truck. Even keeping the 4 speed would be alright but I think that fuel injection would be great.

What all do you guy's think I would need to make this happen? I'm not worried about mounting the engine cause I'll make mounts if I have to. I wonder what could be done for the fuel delivery and such. Would this be crazy or to much hassle?

I'm really starting to get bugged about not driving my truck as I've had it for a couple years now.

I can't say that I have ever tried it but converting an older vehicle into EFI is going to be nothing but trouble. If you really want the 300 in there then make it carbed. Carbed 300 can achieve better MPG than EFI's. A heck of a lot easier to put in also.

I will have to agree with 1984 300 Project. Go the carb path with out the computors/sensors/miles of wire harness. Get back to basic with a vacumn dizzy, your choice of aftermarket intake manifolds/carb and the EFI or tube exhaust headers.

I went the carb path, and I love it. 86 300, 79 Bronco. 300's were available during the latter 70's in your truck, so frame mounts are out there, they bolt in. The difficulty of going efi is all the sensors that have to go with it, plus running new fuel lines, tank, etc... not to mention the different gauge setup required. Pre-80's carb all the way.
