depowering

about a year ago, i installed a 4" exhaust, air raid filter system and superchips tuner on tow safe setting. These mods really woke this monster up , but now im having problems. I have noticed more engine noise , especially from the injectors. I have also noticed turbo surge when towing . I noticed that all the intercooler boots are oily, and there is fuel leaking somewhere. What im saying or asking is that are these mods tearing up a perfectly good truck or are these some things that just happen. After i removed the tow safe and went back to stock the engine seemed to quiet down alot. Its not having power surges , just less power , but a smoother power. My question is , how can i get a little more smooth power without a chip or tuner. (2000 superduty 86000 miles auto 410)

Oil from CCV causing boots to get oily and leak. Drain valve Orings wearing out due to combination of age and ULSDSounds normal for a 6-7 year old truck. The Hutch mod will help quiet the injectors by getting the air out of the fuel lines.

I have a Diablo Predator that does a pretty good job of making some smooth towing power without making the engine rattle. In fact it's quieter with the tow/haul tune loaded than with the factory tune. There's a lot of people that used to run with it and now run with a DP Tuner chip and say it's better.

Injector noise...probably due to the higher oil pressure going to your injectors because of the tuner. Most likely more noticable when the engine is cold.

Turbo surge...a by-product of adding more power (ie. tuner, intake, exhaust). A WW or ATS ported intake housing will fix that.

Oily intercooler boots... this is normal, but can create boost leaks which can rob power. Pull all your boots off and clean them, then do the CCV mod and reroute the crankcase fumes toward the back of the truck.

Fuel leak...most likely due to the fuel bowl drain valve. Open and close it a few times, if that doesn't work replace the drain valve o-rings. Puredieselpower.com has them.

Stock is quieter...less oil pressure going to injectors will quiet them.

Dirty fuel filter, boost leaks and dirty air filter might be your culprits. What other mods do you have besides the tuner? Gauges?

Try disconnecting BOTH batteries for ten minutes or so to "reset" the ECM. The computer will start to get used to things after a while and occasionally needs a kick in the tailpipe.

Learning computers are great for economy but terrible for leadfoots.

4" exaust and a air raid filter system are the only other mods. I always change the oil before its time and only use rotella with motorcraft filters. Dp tune is what most people recomend, is this the more power tune without excessive injector noise and power surges. I just want a little more power that is smooth and a tranny that shifts faster and lugs like a straight gear. I dont want worry about egts. My max trailer wt is about 8000#

The jury is still out on the injector noise with the DP-Tuner. Some people noticed increased injector noise and others don't. Alot of that is up to that particular persons perceptions or it could be worn injectors, fuel pressure, HPOP, who knows. That being said Jody has some of the best tunes for our mules. The DP-tuner will give you nore power with better tranny shifts when combined with the BTS valve body.

Most describe the sound after a DP-tuner as "More Aggressive". A BTS vavle body will firm up those shifts.

dont need the shifts firmer , need them to happen quicker and not downshift as often. There are times when it comes out of overdrive and didnt need to. The torque is there just wish the tranny was.

Jody can custom tune where you want your shifts, up, down and T/C lock and unlock.
