I put the motorcraft plugs in.I had took it to the parts store and they hooked it up and said it was missing on cylinder 6 so I tried that and it worked for a few days,Then i changed the plugs a few days later and it was running great but then like I said it started to do it all over again today.

So you did have a code in it. Was the check the engine light on then? Is it on now? Was the code the part stor pulled a pending code? Did you get the coil from the parts store or from ford? Most part store have a generic code scanner. Did he tell you the actual code he pulled?

I experienced the same "skipping" a few months back, was at my wit's end. took air cleaner assembly apart and decided to thouroughly clean the MAF(mass air flow) with cleaner. Needless to say that did the trick! Now I clean it every oil change.

good luck!

There was no check engine lights on at all it was running rough so I posted on here and they told me it was probally a coil. I went to the part store and told them I needed a coil and he plugged it in to see what cylinder it was and it was #6 he didnt tell me what the code was, and yes it was an aftermarket coil.

First of all, the aftermarket COP is okay to use. Secondly, a boot can be damaged and "look" okay.

But mainly, here's my take on it. I don't believe there's anyway a parts store can tell you which cylinder has pr has had a misfire unless the PCM throws a code. That's why the major dealers have Worlswide Diagnostic Systems.

You probably still have a bad coil pack somewhere, and it would be nice if you kept the one you replaced. It's hard to determine which one is bad unless it's failed completely and misfires all the time.

Before you spend too much time and money on it, invest in a diagnostic check at the dealer.

Go back, get it scanned again, and see what cylinder it is - it doesn't HAVE to be #6 again

I'm running smooth again. I tried to leave to go to the auto parts store armed with my list of coils and boots and spark plugs, but the truck had the stumble bad and kept stalling. I took off the air tube and started spraying carb cleaner in the butterflys. It wouldn't keep running and I had to start it 35 times. Every time it started I got a little more cleaner in it until it slowly started to regain an idle. Took it out and it's running like a top. I got some throttle body cleaner and gave it another treatment just now. I never had a "service engine" light so anyone that doesn't have the light on should probably give the $1.99 treatment a try first.....

Well I know the guy had the parts store really well and he said that he didnt think it would throw a code either but he would plug it in anyway and he did and it said #6. Like I said I replaced that coil and the boot on 6 and it ran fine for a few days then it started to skip again so then I did the plugs and it ran good for a week and now its skipping again. Its not constant but its there so maybe its another coil on its way out?
