willy bio diesel
I have not used the ***** Biodiesel Stations as there are none in Canada; however I have use a local supplier of BioDiesel going on a year now.
I started out using B5 then B20 and more recently B40 Blends. (i.e. 40% Biodiesel and 60% regular No. 2 Diesel)
The IDI diesel in my experience run really well on it and the Stanadyne Injection Pumps seem to work well with Biodiesel.
The only mistake I make this winter was I should have dropped my biodiesel ratio from B40 back to B20 as the B40 tends to start to solidfy between 20 and 30 F and we had a few cold nights were the temps dropped down to 20 F. Ended up freezing my Injection Pump and needing a new pump. Oh well live and learn I say.
Overall the biodiesel will let your 7.3l run:
1, quieter due to the higher Cetane value of the BioDiesel
2, less smoke because Biodiesel burns hotter than regular diesel giving you a more complete combustion.
3, Milage with B5 and B20 is about the same as regular diesel; you may get a small milage drop with the higher blends like B40. This is because Biodiesel does have slightly less Btu/gallon than regular diesel and with the higher blends the gains you make due to better combustion will eventually catch up with you in the lower Btu/gallon resulting in a slighly lower milage.
Recently ran my 91 thru the local Annual Aircare inspection on B40. The truck passed better with Opacity down almost 3:1 (3.5 vs. 9 ppm) from what the truck had on the last years test. Hotter combustion = Less smoke even with the more intense testing that is being done now.
Overall I would say old Willie Nelson is on to something that not only helps the farmers, help a little on reducing dependency on foreign oil and also is better for the environment. You can't go wrong with that.
Seb.....
