You have a CAN dash system, so I imagine that it's a firmware issue in the display. I don't know for a fact, but I bet that the lariat computer has a different part number and that one can get the MPG info from the cluster.
When I get bored with just switching between the trip meter and the hour meter, I open the door, and it says 'door ajar'. When that gets boring I push buttons on the trailer brake controller and it gives me a different message.
I'm sure there are others I haven't discovered yet.
Honestly, I was happy to get an hour meter. Many people on here complain about the inaccuracy of the features (like miles to empty, miles per gallon) of the higher-model computers, and it made me question the value of the extra features.
You can get a scangage, it displays most stuff the overhead computer does + more. Mine is not working properly though and I am not sure if it is my OBD2 port or my particular unit. Others have claimed not to have the problems I have had. They run about $160.
