hopefully someone can help.I have a 2000 superduty,5.4,auto,4wd,that seems to be misfireing at about 40mph,and now at idle.its not showing any codes and its been happening off and on for 2 months with it becoming more frequent the last 3 weeks.I have a actron scanner, and had scanned it with a hypertec programmer that gave a code p1000,which I was told means not enough ignition cycles. I just dont get it.any answers would be helpful
My 6.8 started intermittently missing [between 1000 & 1500 rpm under load]back in early November without any codes. On Dec 23, the COP finally quit giving a constant missfire. The CEL did not light, but my code reader did indicate a missfire on cyl 4. I replaced the COP and that issue was solved.
If the symptoms occur everytime you drive your truck, you could buy 1 new COP & go cylinder by cylinder, until it's solved (you probably want to replace the boots on the old COPs that you reinstall). I was going to do that, but it was intermittent (didn't do it at all, until after I returned the new COP.
Which Actron scanner are you using. The cheaper ones will not detect the "pending" codes ..... the ones that are not yet causing a check engine light, etc
The Actron unit that my local Advance Auto Parts lets you use did detect those pending codes, and it told me which one of my cylinders was causing my "light load" miss. After having two of these misses over time, I went a bought an Actron scanner from Amazon that would pick up the codes.
A non-California emissions 2000 F-350 should have OBD1 which generally won't quickly set a misfire code and won't turn on the check engine light for a misfire.
The easiest way to find the miss is to have your dealer do a cylinder power balance test with their WDS, PDS or IDS scan tool. The test can be done on the road while the problem is happening and the misfiring cylinder usually shows up very easily.
thanks going to give it a shot, got a new cop and will start. at least I have isolated which bank so that does cut the choices in half. thanks again Deno
