Hi Folks. New around here.
Have a '77 Highboy and cannot move the shifter for the Automatic. (it barely goes into reverse but no further and is clearly in a bind) Disconnected from the transmission to confirm where the problem is.
Anybody know what usually happens in the column on these and what most probably needs to happen to repair it?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Usually it means that the collar that the shifter is attached to has broken off the shift tube on the inside of the column....youll have to take the steering wheel and turn signal cam off to see if it is. Mine had the same problem one day so I tore it apart..the thing was only barely attached.

Seems like every time I post. I remember (oh ya) there is this It could be also. And There you are Dennis. Right on every time. This is a good thing. Thanks. Bushings on both ends can be bad. Or a stick or frozen mud and snow at tranny linkage as well.

I'm currently trying to repair my own column shifter and have found that the collar broke off around the tube. The collar was easy to get a my local ford dealer, as was the turn signal switch, but I had to get the canceling ring from LMC as well as the bearing and turn signal holding (steering column tube flange) which was damaged because a screw came out of it. The only part that I haven't been able to find is the transmission selector lever(D3TZ-7210-C), which I may have to repair by welding it up and the grinding it to fit the selector detents, unless any one has a source for new ones.
What broke was the detent piece on the backside of the selector housing. It broke off and wedged itself. Problem is that it's obsolete. The shift collar is in excellent shape. Any suggestions of an outfit that reproduces these?
Part #D4TA-3511-DWA.
Thanks
Looks like it's actually called the "upper flange". It houses the turn signal switch and the bearing.
I did actually find it thanks to this forum. The reply #6 mentioned an outfit called "LMC". Wow. That outfit's got it all.
Thanks alot folks. Much appreciated.

It appears that this part is not available from BOTP, LMC, Dennis Carpenter, or Auto Krafters, or my local dealer, so I guess that I go find someone with a tig welder to repair it. It looks like this would be a good part for someone to invest in reproducing.
