Mile marker hub install help
A pick, small flat blade screwdriver.
Snap ring pliers.
Remove the 6 bolts.
Pry the hub cover assembly off.
You need to remove a round wire shaped c type clip that fits in a groove towards the front edge of the Hub. Take some rags and wipe away the grease and grime from that area.
Use a sharp pick and lift one of the ends of the locking ring and use the flat blade screwdriver to lift up and pull the locking ring out of the groove. May take acouple of tries because the ring will try to rotate in the groove.
Use snap ring pliers and remove the small snap ring on the splined axle shaft stub.
Screw two of the bolts you removed back on the hub. Use them as a handle and pull the assembly straight out.
That's it.
You do realize you need to purchase the optional Mile Marker conversion kit if you're going from autolocking hubs to manual locking hubs?
I have no idea how to tell if the junkyard truck originally had auto hubs and has been converted. If it has then get everything you can.
Both my F150's had auto hubs and both had four prong nuts so I don't think all auto hubs use a hex nut. I changed both trucks to manual warn hubs and used the conversion kit but never measured the thickness of the nuts to see if they were different. I think I may have to dig out those old nuts and check them. Atleast I was told by my 4 wheel store that the difference was the thickness of the nuts and that is why the conversion kit was needed. If I have a wrong idea post back so I can learn something. Thanks
