Just fasten the lead to the temp gauge so it don't get into the steering column.
There is also a plug in the rear of the passenger side head that would work.
My stock gauge was so far off, I just removed the stock sending unit and installed mine there. I also added a mechanical gauge for oil pressure, removed the stock sending unit there as well. My amp meter has not moved in 20 years, so it was replaced with a volt gauge.
I can see a custom dash with all mechanical gauges is in my future.
The speedo, tach and fuel gauge is all I still use in my stock cluster.
