You have to look at the fact of the OP's truck being a '00. Newer F-450's are available with higher GCWR's than his.

'00 F-450 Regular Cab with 6 speed

Vehicle Curb Weight - 6500# - 7000# depending on wheel base. Plus options, i.e. 14' Bed.

GVWR - 15,000#'s

GCWR with 4.88's - 26,000#s

MAX 5th wheel weight - 18,200#'s

The trailer TOW/COMMAND package is GREAT!! ..... even though I have surge brakes on the trailer ('cause I tow with several other trucks, too).
The Hitachi is an ex60 I'm really not sure on it weight, but I have a Dresser Dozer that weighs 22,000 and I drive that around all the time on the same trailer.

Regardless you still need a CDL to drive the vehicle if the vehicle and anything its towing is over 26,001 lbs.

you can tow what you want and what you think the truck can handle but all it takes is a cop with a rule book and knows the gcvw and thats it. some states (im in nj) and its any truck over 26,001 with air breaks. gas or deisel thats a cdl

This is very true. I don't have air breaks, but even with out air you still have to have a CDL just without air. The truck does tow it quite well, and I can real afford a big truck. Luckly I haven't hadn't had any problems with the police, and hopefully I never do.

I cant beleive your doing that on a srw truck with a hitch rated for 12k with a weight dist setup....that dozer and trailer has to weigh at least 26k

To the guy about the cdl....thats a common misunderstanding.....

you have to have a cdl to tow 10k if the GCWR is over 26000 lbs....like this setup above....

in other words, if your truck was 7k and you were pulling 18k you wouldnt need a cdl because your gcwr is less than 26001

if your truck is 7k and you are pulling 20k you need a cdl because your gcwr is over 26001

The topic posted said he is towing 25k lbs. plus the weight of the truck and trailer. So he needs an CDL. The GCWR of all that is over 35,000 lbs.

Yes and he said he is towing 25,000 lbs. If you remember from 2nd grade 25,000 is more then 10,000. Also he not only exceeds that parameter he also exceeds the parameter that says you need a CDL if the GCWR of the vehicle and anything its towing is over 26k lbs. So he meets both parameters and thus definitely needs a CDL.

. Maybe you might have some advice for me. I have a 40 ft goose neck trailer. Has a 10ft Hyd dove tail. The empty weight of trailer is app 9,500 pounds. I need to load 2 trailers at 5,600 pounds. I have done this with my 3500 Dura Max already. I run from Indiana to California. I am not legal. Thinking of buying A Ford 450. FYI the last trip gross was 28,500 Truck, trailer ,load. Also Dot opened door to check sticker on weight at New Mexico port of Entry. He did not know what to look for. Still made me worry. And yes I do have a CDL. 26,000 truck plate & 22,000plus trailer plate.
