BAER brake rotors
After spending a lot of time researching brake rotors (drilled vs slotted, cryoed vs non, etc....) I purchased a set of Eradi speed drilled, slotted and treated rotors, and hawk pads from a reputable vendor. I purchased these rotors B/C of the Baer name, reputation and the THREE YEAR WARRANTY AGAINST WARPAGE. It was a no questions asked warranty, if the brakes shake when you apply they give you new rotors, whoo-hoo!!!
O.K. here is how it went down. Install-no problem, Break in- still a slight shake, 2000 miles later- I'm loosing fillings when I apply my brakes.
So last Friday I stopped in to have my tires rotated and the tire tech came to me and asked when I was going to replace my rotors because these had grooves in them. I told him they were supposed to be that way, and he said "no, these are not the slots but grooves all the way around." I go look and OMG these rotors are toast. I pull out the trusty Laptop find contact info for Baer and make a call. I am immedietley put through to one of their engineers, who asks all the normal questions(year make model....) and he finally says Mr. Drummonds I don't know what youve got on the front of your truck but we don't make an application to fit it. You have got to be kidding me! And I have pulled my 5er and family all over the southeast from Turkey day to Christmas. He askes me to read him the stamping number on the rotor and it turs out it is for an EX. But it is about .0085 short on the hub thickness to fit a Truck. turns out the EX rotors are only rated for 6500 #s and the truck rotors would have to be rated for 9500 #. Well since it was Friday and I needed my truck I had to get another crappy set of stock rotors, and some regular pads. Baer refunded me completely and paid for the return shipping, but I still have crappy stock brakes.
this is just a friendly warning for anyone interested.
When your ready to swap em out :http://www.puredieselpower.com/catal...-c-30_102.html
You know the bad thing about all of this is that the Vendors are under the impression that there is a part number for the SD rotors, It is printed in their pricing manuals from Baer. They vendor rightfully told me he thought I was full of crap when I told them that no such rotor exists, but after some calming down time and a second phone call to the vendor, he was told the exact same thing I was from Baer, and niceities and apologies all around.
Oh well live and learn, and move on.
That sucks about your troubles, but good to hear that they completely refunded you your money. That's a rare thing anymore.
