Gas Tank

okay I have a 1977 F-250 and had to replace the rear mount gas tank becuase it was leaking. I ordered a replacment tank which I now have, but it is different from the one I took out. The old tank only has one hose coming out for the filler piece, but the new tank has two openings for hoses coming out of the tank. One hole is big which is for the filler piece, but then there is a smaller opening right next to it. Is this the right tank? and if so where does the littler hose need to run to?

Yes it's the correct tank.
The 77 had a tube for equalizing & venting.
The tube should have come with the tank.

I'll post an illustration soon.

Thanks for the reply. With the old tank not having this extra hole I take it that it was not the right tank for the truck.

So I have everything correct with this. There is the gas line that comes from the sending unit, the vent line on top of the tank, the filler hose and this other hole is for a vent/equalizing hose (where would this hose run to).

Perhaps you got a pre-77 fuel tank.

In 77 the box came with fuel tank doors thus changing the filler tubes.

Thanks again for the help. I ordered the hose from LMC and thye said it had two hoses so it should be the right one for the tank I have now. The truck has a flatbed on it so the filler is out in the open for the most part.

Maybe from now on you can order parts from FTE sponsor sites ?

Like BOTP the official sponsor of this forum.

LMC is NOT a sponsor of FTE
