Won't Start!!!

Hello All,

I've got a 93' F-150 4.9L that wouldn't start this morning. My wife drove it yesterday and said it ran fine, but when she went to start it this morning, it wouldn't turn over. According to her (I'm at work right now), the dash lights come on, and she can hear one "click", but that's it. I'm hoping it's just a dead battery (she was unsure whether she left the lights on...that's another story!), but I'm miffed that the dash lights would still come on. Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

It does sound like a dead battery, or a bad connection at the battery. The battery is probably got enough juice to run the dash lights, radio, etc., but not enough power to turn the starter motor.

Thanks a bunch for the insight, Franklin. A little bit of an update....

Got home from work, and it started right up. Shut it down. Tried to start it up, and nothing. Well, actually the lights, radio, wipers all worked, but there was just a single "click" from beneath the hood. Did a quick look at the connections and the ground from the negative to the chassis and didn't see anything obvious. Could it still be the battery? I'm kind of at a loss about where to start with the wiring. I was thinking of pulling the starter and the battery and getting them checked out. Ideas??

Thanks again in advance!!

I would go ahead and pull the cables off the battery and clean them with some sandpaper. Then try it.

If it still clicks, then get a voltmeter and put the leads on the battery terminals while someone tries to crank the engine. If it just clicks, and the battery voltage drops very low, I would suspect a intermittent dead cell in the battery.
