Gone, but I'm back, now
Gas mileage, Allison clunk and eating crank position sensors kind of took the edge off the love affair.
Family circumstances emerged and I had some disposable cash. So, I picked up an '07 F250 SD yesterday.
Of the big 3, it has the best styling, IMHO. The new GMs are just butt ugly.
This truck is the first diesel I've owned since the mid 80s.
I've been wading through threads, FAQs and the Tech Folder. I'm doing my best to absorb all of the great archival information, but still trying to comprehend it all ...
A couple questions for clarification purposes ...
1. When I was buying diesel 20 years ago, one had to be very careful about where you bought it. Dirt, water, gelled fuel were a few of the problems I recall. Is it safe to assume that those issues are by and large a thing of the past?
2. When a "farkle" (cross between function and sparkle) is designated for an 06, is it a safe assumption that it is compatible with an 07? Are all 6.0s since the mid-stream change in the top end, parts compatible?
3. 07s were a short run model year. Would this be considered the cream of the 6.0 crop or a ******* child?
Still reading through threads ...
P.S. Haven't heard anyone talk about fuel prob's,there are enough diesels on the road now ,that unless you're at a back country store, you should have good stuff.
I only buy fuel from places that sell lots of it, and have newer tanks, such as truck stops. This doesn't necessarily mean I want end up with water in my fuel, but it's less likely.
From what I've gathered, the '07s are the same truck as the '06s, but they offered a couple of new paint colors. So, I would think most, if not all parts will be interchangeable.
Out of all the years the 6.0L was offered, I believe you probably got the best year engine made, since they have simply refined earlier problems found over the previous 5 years the engine was made.
