I was given a 82 f150 and was told it had a 351 but the timing chain cover had 302 written on it. I realize that the yare very similar and this part might be interchangeable. I just really want to be sure what I have before I do too much work on it. Thanks for the help guys.
It's pretty easy to tell a 302 from a 351W once you know what to look for.
Look at the front of the motor where the waterpump bolts onto the block. If the gasket surface between the head and block is right at the water pump you have a 302. If the gasket surface is about 1" away from the pump mount you have a 351W.
