I am going to check out a 1988 ranger with 2.0/4spd man tranny.
the truck has been sitting a while. the owner said it needs a new battery, starter, and solenoid. anybody have ideas about what other areas to look at to get the truck running?
I will take fresh fuel and pump out the old fuel too.
any thoughts and pointers?
check the oil, if it looks like a milkshake, walk away. if the water in the radiator looks like a rusty color of mess. walk away. b4 i bought a starter or anything, i would try to turn the engine over by hand ( put a socket and break bar on the crank bolt and try to turn the engine) if it dont turn over walk away, or come with a low offer. if just want to hear it run change the gas, and have a buddy push start it. no need to buy parts for something that bad b4 you even get it off his lot.
I saw the truck and it is a $100.00 deal. someone took out the starter and there are some wires out of place, etc. It also needs a new windshield and tailgate. I will get some prices on those items on monday.
I have to go to the wiring forum to see if someone has the diagram for the truck.
I have not decided what to do yet, and I will turn the engine by hand when I get the chance.
Truck needs work, we'll see.
