brownie box sizes

okay i new to this forum but i have a 64 f250 4x4 that i want to put a brownie box in between the transfer case and main tranny for more gears so i can cruise at 55 comvertably. i have never seen a brownie so i need to know what models would have small enough dimensions to fit. i want either a direct/overdrive or a three speed. i also need to know what one of these would be under so i could go back road scroungeing. and help would be appreciated.

Probably too big for your application.

I tried to find info to post a link on a while back. Not much comes up easily.

I suggest you go to google, and search for "auxilary transmission", and "brownie box" etc.

You will find:

http://www.dieseldynamics.com/accessories.htm

http://www.gearvendors.com/

http://www.6066gmcguy.org/spicer-5831-b.htm

(yes, it's a GMC guy site. google "spicer-5831" if you fear melting at the sight of a GMC)

discussion of two that are out there:

http://www.rverscorner.com/info/auxtrans.html

And so on....

I've done some research also and come up with about the same thing. The GMC site does list them as being 18 13/23" ( assume it's supposed to be 13/32") long which is pretty HUGE. I'm on the hunt for one, if I find one for a decent price, I'll post some dimensions.

I think you'll find them in that size catagory, as they were used in F600 and up size trucks.

There is another splitter for manual trans trucks that is lower cost than the GV and other US Gear:

http://www.high-impact.net/transmiss...roverdrive.htm

Note they discuss this vs. NV 4500 swap, which is, as they say, "more civilized..."

this is really off the wall but would a dana 24 transfer case stand up to running backwards. i know this would put the pressure on the wrong side of the gears plus how much noise would it make. if this would work you could run a driveline in the out put and get a significant overdrive.
