Serious Question...

Ford Truck Workshop...
Just mulling this idea over!
A Ford F Truck specialist workshop downunder!

Now we don't have near the number of F Trucks on our roads that you all do...and there are a LOT of Ford Stealerships around who do work on the Fords at unbelieveable prices!

Likewise theres a lot of Diesel Truck workshops & Turbo specialists where you can get work done on a F truck if you want!

However theres only 1 Dedicated F truck workshop in the whole state and thats in the capital city Perth - 60 miles away (and they charge like wounded bulls for any work and are booked out weeks ahead)!

Soo - Where I am in a town of 25,000 with One Ford stealership - I wonder about the idea of opening a "F Truck specialist" shop - where I stock all the goodies you guys have available thru your sonsors to fit to folks F trucks who want the upgrades - but don't want the wait associated with importing parts and the hassel of doing the install works!

My Bro in Laws a good mechanic, and looking for a bidness of his own!

I could probably kick in about $100K to start the project off - rent a industrial unit in town - get the hoists etc, and start stocking the shop and so on!

He and I betwixt us have just about all the tools we could want already!

I'm not a mechanic - but have been twisting spanners since I was a teenager - & rebuilt GM & Ford engines from the ground up as a kid! I do have a marine engineering qual - and do all my own outboard servicing etc - drop the lower units and change water pump impellers etc!

I don't LOVE mechanical work - but could run the office and advertising / promotions...and sell accessories etc and kits to customers and book the work, issue the invoices and pay the bills etc and help with simple stuff as well where needed!

I figure we'd soon get agencies for a lot of the accessories including portable refigerators and so on that folks seem to want in their trucks down here!

Sound like a plan?
Anyone walked this ricepaper trail ahead of us?

Yeah I know it ain't a get rich quick scheme....but I do need something to keep me off the streets!

How big a population does one need to make it viable?

Cheers!

I live in the town that Bully Dog started out in, and it's about 1,300 people. But I suspect the density of F-series per capita is much greater here than Austrailia.
The key to any business over here is marketing.
I think that Austrailia is more liberal than the USA, but I would advise you to throughly investigate the legalities of installing/modifying these pickups and also importing the parts. Many of the things that we do ourselves to these pickups (CCV mod, cat delete, AIH removal) would be illegal to charge money and do for someone else.

That is a great idea. The only problem would be the customers, are they in the right mindset to modify their trucks? Plus, shipping would kill you and you would make less profit if you were to include that cost in your products. I'd look into it if i were you!

Definately something to explore further. There may be a lot of red tape, but worth it to get through it all.
