engine swap idea
Hey guys, thinking of swapping in a 200ci 6cyl engine out of a 66 mustang into an 88 2wd Ranger with a 5spd. The Ranger currently has the 2.0L 4cyl. Wondering if the 6cyl will bolt up to the 4cyl transmission. Any info is helpful. Thanks, Casey

The 200 CID engine will not bolt to your transmission and the 200 engine is too long from rear face of block to front face of block to fit between the radiator and firewall. In general, the old Mustang engine is not a very good choice to swap into any vehicle.

Thanx for the info guys I'll probably just rebuild the engine thats in it. Can I get much better than 80 hp out of this engine? better mpg? Best mpg was 24.5 before it blew. 5spd trans with 3.73 gears. Would like to up mpg as best as possible. any info appreciated. thanx, Casey.

The only way to up mpg would be to go to a higher gear, like a 3:54 or so, but since it's allready down on power, probobly not a good idea. Try a good tune up, proper tire presures and maybe try synthetic fluids in the whole drive train - engine, tranny and rear diff. I use royal purple, it seemed to help.
