What to do...

A little background on my truck. It is an '86 6.9 C6 4x4 Super Cab. I bought it last July from a good friend. He sold it to me for $50, he bought it 5 years earlier from one of his good friends.

It had an 088 ATS turbo kit on it. The turbo died while my friend still had the truck. He paid a shop to remove the turbo, the shop kept the crossover pipe, oil feed and return lines. The shop fabbed a new 2"(I think) Y pipe and connected it to the existing 2.5" exhaust.

When I bought the truck I sent to turbo down to another friend and he rebuilt it for $100. I have tried calling ATS to get the parts I need, every time they take my name and number and say they will call me back, but they never do. I have tried Emailing them and I had my local performance shop call them. They seem totally uninterested in helping me.

I Email Stans Headers and he will make a crossover pipe for me, no price quote though.

Today I was at Jim Greens performance and they too will make a crossover pipe, they will also fab the oil feed, return lines and exhaust. They quoted me $88/hour with a minimum of 7 hours. The minimum time could go down if I could provide them with picture of the parts I need, dimensions would help too.

So these appear to be my options:

#1: Go to Jim Greens and have them fab the stuff I need. I'm looking at a minimum of $700 there. They are about 2 miles from my house versus 25 for Stans(with no quote) The downside is that my truck would be down during the fab/install time it would take. I need my truck to move my kid around in.

#2 Buy a new turbo kit. I will NOT buy an ATS kit as they dont seem to care about post-sales support. So banks it will be. Roughly $3k for the kit.

#3 Get a set of Stans headers, install them and fabricate a ram air setup. Have Jim Greens build a dual exhaust for me. Probably about $77 but in smaller chunks and I shouldn't have as much downtime.

What would you do?

That's a tough one. I think if it was me, I'd go to Stan's and at least get a quote to fix the ATS turbo. From what I've seen he does top-drawer work and knows his stuff about IDIs. Just explain your need for minimal downtime, and bring it in right when he says he can get you into his schedule. Then maybe borrow a car or rent-a-wreck 'til its done. Gotta' cost a lot less than 3 grand...

FWI, Banks customer service is great. I bought the second F250 in my sig, used, with one of their systems on it. I called them up and explained that and asked how I could get an installation/service manual for it. The guy took my name and address and three days later it showed up on my doorstep, shipped via UPS ground. And THEY paid the shipping. Nothing in it for them, no sale or anything else. Yet they paid to ship the manual to me, no questions asked. Now THAT is great customer service!

Sorry you are having trouble with ATS. They were reasonable whenever I called them. Since you have a bunch of the parts, I would try to give ATS another chance to respond by speaking to a manager and explaining what happened. This would be your most economical solution. What parts are you looking for? Maybe other members might have spares.

At a bare minimum I need the crossover pipe and oil return line/mount. I would like to find a feed line too.

If I find a compatible kit online for cheap I'll snap it up.

If you phone ATS wait on hold for them... if they tell you they will take you phone # and call you back, just ask to wait on hold till they figure it out..

If there were a cheap ATS kit online, all of us here would grab it!!
