2003 F-250 Which 6 CD Changer?

I have an 03 F-250 Supeduty SuperCab that came with a single an AM/FM Cassette/Single CD player. I believe that a Ford remote six CD changer can be added to the unit but I need to know which ones are compatible. I would prefer a stock unit. It appears as though some of these trucks may have come with the in-dash 6 CD changers. I am looking for one of the remote units. I can find these remote units that came in a Taurus or an Expedition that folks claim will work in a Superduty. Has anyone done this?

In my gallery under the 2003 F-250 Album, there are some photos of my Roady XT install that sort of show the radio unit I have in the truck. What infomration do I need to sort this out? Is there a wiring harness available that would make this plug and play? Which 6 CD changer unit do I need?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Carl G.

If your radio has changer controls, then your good. The 03 with the indash 6 disc also has changer controls through the CDDJ feature. USASpec makes kit with changer and cables, I would also assume ford can get you one.

It will display "No DJ" if you hit the CD button a second time while a CD is in the single CD player (hope that makes sense). The No DJ dispaly is what has me believving that it will accept and opeate a 6 CD changer through the exisiting unit. It does have a shuffle mode on one of the push buttons.

I found this a long time ago when looking into Ipod adapters. http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=55475

A quick way to determine if your radio supports the CD / disc jockey functions necessary for the PIE adaptors to work is to run a diagnostic self test
1. Turn the radio on and place it in AM/FM mode
2. Simultaneously press the audio unit preset buttons 3 and 6 to enter speaker walk around test mode.
3. Press Preset button 1 to start the self test
4. After the self test is done use the “DISC TUNE” right button to display the codes
5. To exit the self-diagnostic mode, turn the ignition switch off or the audio unit off.

If it throws a “U2003 CDDJ" code (you may also see “U2008 Phone” and “U2005 RICP), the software is looking for a external CD / Disc Jockey unit, and not finding it.

I went out and ran the test as you described. I do not have a "Disc Tune" Button on mine and I did not have to push one to get it to begin the self test. It ran through the speaker walk around test without me having to push button #1. At the end of the test, it displayed "No DJ". It will also display "NO DJ" if you push the CD button a second time with a CD in the single CD player. I rembere readin somewhere that you accessed the 6-cd changer by pressing the cd button twice. this seems to confirm this.

I see basically four different types of CD changers for the Fords.

1 - The in-dash 6CD changer that appears to be buil into the tuning unit.
2 - A remote 6 CD changer that came with the Taurus
3 - A remote 6 CD changer that came with Expeditions
4 - A remote 6 CD changer that came in Explorer's mid to late 90's

Will any of them work?
Will only certain ones work?

My owners manual mentions three locations for a remote 6 CD changer but does not indicate much else. The only radio that it actually shows and describes with the 6 CD changer is the unit with the built-in unit. Again, they reference factoryu install locations for the 6 CD changer but provide no information on how to operate it. Doesn't make much sense.
