I bought the full Fabtech 5.5" 8" lift kit. It comes with all new springs, shocks, hangers, etc. My question is can I just do the back and then drive it to the pros to do the front? I can change the shock and springs in the front also. I'm worried about the installing a longer pitman Arm? and the fack that the front driveshaft may need to be lengthened. They want a fortune around Chicago to install a lift kit?
Beyond two $20 tool there is nothing to the pitman. Bust the arm off the drag link (can be done with hammer or pickle fork) and then press the arm off the gear box. To install, put the arm the gear box and tighten nut, then put the bolt from the tierod end in the pitman arm and tighten.
I am going to assume you have a 99-04 Superduty sence I know they have a 5.5/8" kit. With the solid axle I can see a reason you couldn't install the lift and leave the DS disconnected until you get a shop to fix it. The biggest issue is setting the toe-in before you drive to the alignment shop.
The superduties are simple enough that you should pay someone to do the whole thing or install the lift your self. 8" lift on the rear will screw up the caster and could be dangerous to drive.
