Never heard that one before, but I am sure someone here can verify if it is true.
Be patient. You'll get the answer you need (not necessarily the one you want!)
I have done it a few times. Normally i do it when i change a sensor, filter or modify anything. It reset the pcm and makes it relearn certian settings. I never really noticed any real differences or gains. Just disconnect the neg. side on both batteries and then pull on your headlights to drain any residual power. Leave em on fro about 10 minutes and hook it all back up.
I took my S10 ZR2 to a repair facility to have some stuff done to it. When I got it back, it felt like a new truck, better fuel economy and more power.
The repair was a sensor that was busted that was making the check engine light come on. I asked the wrench and he said that replacing it was not going to make any driviability difference.
I thought I may be crazy, so I didn't say crap about it to my old lady...it's her truck.
A couple days later, she said that her truck felt like it was new again, and asked what the heck I had done to it at the repair shop. It would go up the mountains (we are in northern californie) in 5th gear instead of having to downshift to fourth like it did when we first got it.
It's been a while and now you have to downshift when going over some of the passes here. I'll go try and disconnect the battery and run it down, and see if I get a repeat performance.
