Which direction do the torque convert nuts turn to get them off? Is it the regular left turn or are they left handed threads? I can't get any of them off. Oh, I'm working on a 69' 351W btw. Thanks!
That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. Like I said, I can't break the nuts loose. I'm getting a little frustrated with it.
Heres two tricks for you
1. Take a open/box ended wrench and put the box end on the TC nut, Then take another bigger wrench and slip the box end into the open and of the first wrench. Gives you more leverage.
2.If you don't have bigger open/box ended wrenches (which you should always use a box end on a TC bolt anyhow) take a hammer and gently tap the wrench near the end. BE CAREFUL that you don't strip out the head of the bolt.
Have someone hold the crank pulley with a 15/16" socket on a breaker bar as well. Sometimes the engine will try to turn on you while breaking the TC nuts loose.
Well...I managed to get three of them off fairly easily using a hammer on the wrench. The fourth one however, after completely rounding the damn nut off, I had to use my Dremel and a small cutting disc and cut the nut off. It's a good thing I'm going with an upgraded torque converter otherwise I'd be a little ticked right now.
