How much torque can a C4 trans handle with aftermarket upgrades?
I guess the limiting factor is the case's strength.
From experience, what is the grenade point on this trans.
I have given up on making the 77F150 4X4 into a drag truck, and picked up a 67 Cougar hardtop with the 289 and C4 with a 3.0:1 8" in the rear.
I don't know quite what I am doing yet. It is an all original numbers matching car.
I may take all the drive train out and keep it safe and drop in a 5.0 mustang drive train if I can find one wrecked for a good price with a standalone engine management system run off a laptop. I know the original 289 will eventually not be enough, as usual.
I know a couple of guys running the C-4 behind 460s.They don't have a boatload of money in them either, just the rebuild tricks you can pickup from any Ford trans guy.I know they drilled the drums to let oil out better and added clutch plates. One of them still runs the stock input shaft, the other has an aftermarket shaft from Performance Automatic I think.I run a C-4 in my high 11 second 351C Mustang with just a stock rebuild and shift kit with no problem for several years of drag strip duty.
