see all the soot from the exhaust system is the main issue. soot builds and builds and then you have a blockage. with the new ulsd you dont have near the soot because of the lower sulfur content. so yes i am looking for alot of cleaner engines in a few years.

EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) It returns some exhaust gas to the intake side to reduce the temperature of the combustion. This reduces nox emissions. That is a very simplified explanation.

I'm not an advocate of disconnection, so I'm the wrong one to ask.

it is a mixed population on disconnecting the egr valve. some have reported quicker spools and lower boost with it being unplugged. my opinion, with good fuel and a occasional right lead foot, will keep the system flowing as it should be.

I'd have to hear a decent explanation of what disabling the EGR would do to cause the turbo to spool up faster. I think the expectation for 'something' to happen or change as a result of an action often leads to the 'perception' of improvement.
