I just recently bought a '03 Explorer XLT V-6 with low mileage and have been somewhat happy so far. So I have a couple question's. First thing is, I have been looking for the fuel filter and have not been able to find it. I have a '93 Mustang which the fuel filter is very easy to spot and had a '95 F-250 351 which was also easy to spot. Second question is under the hood it say's it is equipped with an automatic starter but the keyless remote's that came with it which had to be ordered new since it didn't come with them does not have a automatic car start button. I have made an appt. with the local Ford dealership to have a couple thing's fixed under there warranty. Just wanted to get some knowledge about this truck before I go. Thanx.
My book says that the fuel filter is mounted under the truck, on the right side, in front of the gas tank. The automatic starter you refer to sounds like an after market unit. My son put one in his truck, it has a totaly different remote control than the one ford uses. Find the maker of that unit and get a new remote.
Did Ford equip these truck's with automatic starter's in the '03 year. If so the orange warning sticker under the hood look's like it is factory sticker from Ford, although not really sure.
The fuel filter is underneath up towards the engine on the passenger side. There is a metal cover (bent at an angle) held on with three bolts.. behind that is a plastic cover held on with two bolts and then the filter. It uses a funky fuel line clip design where you have to unlock the "flap" and then push the clip upward to release the line... kind of a pain in the butt to get to.

No, not from the factory. Dealers do install them though.
