I have an '05 PowerStroke CC Lariat with the trip computer. I had a new 55-gallon tank put on to replace the stock unit. The gas gauge works fine (it's a float, so it'll read whatever's in the tank) but the trip computer's "miles to empty" no longer is accurate. The place the installed the tank (a referral from the Ford dealer) said they didn't know how to recalibrate the computer. And three calls to the dealer have gone unanswered. Does anyone know if this can be recalibrated and - if so - how to do it?

As for as I know, it cannot be done. I have seen quite a few threads over the past couple of years for people that have went to aftermarket tanks--Transfer Flow probably being the most popular--and none of those threads have included a solution to this problem. I think this was possible on the 99-02 models, but not the newer Super Duties.
I was able to reprogram my 04 PSD after installing a 46 gallon transfer flow tank. The instructions I found on here allow you to change the calibration to any size standard tank that ford has ever installed from the factory. The largest tank size available was 40, so that is what I choose. If you search around on the 6.0 diesel forum, or maybe this one (I don't remember which) you will find a thread that discusses this.
The short answer is that you need to go to the dealer and have them change the "as built" data for you overhead console to something else from what it was really built at. There was a TSB that refers to this, as some vehicles left the factory with the wrong calibrations in them.
I made friends with one of the technicians, and we did it in less then 10 minutes one morning before the dealership opened.
I also think I have found a way to put in a 46 gallon number (which Ford never made) but I need to gain access to the WDS computer again at the dealership to try again, and haven't gotten around to it yet. There is a checksum type of computation done that isn't exactly described anywhere to allow for non-ford tank sizes to be accepted by the WDS. I believe I have decoded this, but again, haven't had time to test it yet.
