hmm, thats an interesting thought with the chains.
yea i did think about the forklift mounts and i would love to do that but i think mine is a lil too stubby for those mounts unless they have some supersize ones... i'll go measure the girth and come right back and piost up
edit... the girth is 18" and from flat top to flat bottom is 19.25 both measurements on the mark!

If its a normal keg, then you could just drill some 1/2" or so holes in the top & bottom regions of the keg, ie the area that is external where the handles are on the upper part.
see unfortunatley i already went and tig'd the filler neck and fuel line nipples and i put them on the rounded part. what can i say, i got antsy about it, lol
edit... here is a pic i took, its crappy but its all i got!

well that is sweet, i was kind of looking for an easy way to remove it if need be. i may resort to that. also, i dont have a tig handy, i used the one at skool when i was takin those welding classes, thats another reason i did it then. i am not in those classes anymore so i dont have easy access to the equipment
Mount two opposing pieces of metal on a firm base like this \__/ so that they contact the keg somewhere around 20º to 30º on the keg. Since you said the keg was what, 18 inches? I'd probably space them out about 12.5-14.5" and make the contact areas about 4" long and 3" high. On the upper end of the contact patch, leave it so that it extends out past the area of contact on the keg and drill some 3/4" to 1.5" holes for hooks. Then use two small tie-down straps to keep it in place, hooking from one side of the keg on the mount to the opposing side's mount.
so you think ratchet straps would be ok to use? i am worried that on some trail rides it wont be allowed. for example GrayRock doesnt like ratchet strap batteries!
I'd add gussets at all the joints, what i'd do is bend some tubing up (a 180 bend in some 3/16 stuff) then cut it out and notch it and presto, radius's gussests.
well do they not allow them in fear of the straps getting cut or slashed or in fear of the mechanism breaking?
if its the tearing thats an issue, they offer steel-core straps...
Here is their home page, the good thing is they lock too via key, so that would probably enably them to qualify for the ORV Park regs/rules... http://www.steelcore.net/
I welded a large piece of angle iron (dimentionaly large, not terribly thick) to the ends of keg so that, for lack of a better word, it had "wings" on each side. Bolted the wings to the frame. y
Simple...use those water heater safety straps...they're like giant hose clamps you bolt one end on the truck wrap the strap around and tighten it up...give you a firm hold ( after all its designed to hold up a 50-50 gal water heater in an earth quake aint it?) and easy removal if need ever be...problem solved lol. Best part is you can get em at most any big box hard wear store like Home depot or Lowes. And theyre metal so you could probably weld them on??(not sure if theyre aluminum but id bet they are) And paint them if youd like

those straps look like a good idea to hold my oba tank down, hmm.
I used ratchet straps to hold down my tire and air tank when I went up to RCOP, but it was pretty ghetto looking. It would work temporarily, but I would try to find something more permanent.
now that was a good idea! however unfortunately my lowes/home depot doesnt stock them, in fact the guy in the water heater section said he'd never heard of anything like that, lol.
SO... here is what i came up with! the ratchet straps will work for now but i will be going with metal straps sometime down the line (soon hopefully)
