Parking Break Light

The parking break light (the red one) on the dash of my 95 bronco will not turn off. I have tried engaging and disengaging the break but the light still stays on. The only time I have noticed the light turning off is sometimes when I make a sharp turn such as a u-turn. However the light comes back on within a few seconds. The truck isn't driving any different (at least not that I can tell), but I would love to have that annoying light off. Any help is very appreciated

The brake indicator circuit is low-side switched so any short in the wiring to the body of the vehicle will cause it to come on. From your symptoms I would deduce you have one part of the wiring trapped or the insulation abraded away and it is touching the body apart from when you u-turn and centripetal forces cause it to move away.

Have you also checked the fluid level for the foot brake as its connected to the same circuit. This would also show the same symptoms as when you corner the fluid slops to the outside edge and will raise the float valve.

Probably quicker to check the fluid first - if its high then disconnect the plug from the float chamber (top of brake master cylinder) and see if the light goes out when the vehicle is running. If it stays on check for shorts to ground.

Furthermore check the switch on the top of the park brake to see if its jammed closed. Disconnect and see if the light goes out.
