I would have your alternator tested, also make sure the ground cable(braded cable going from engine to passenger side of cab under hood) is hooked up good to the engine with no tears or cuts in it, on these newer vehicles, that is a necessity. I use to work at a paint/body shop and we pulled a engine out of a van, one of the guys forgot to put the ground back on the engine after we put it back on and after the van would warm up, it would die. we found and put the cable back on the engine and all was perfect.
bump on this thread...i too have the same issue...2000 f1...4.6...idles really low and have to use the "two foot" method to keep it alive...reading through this forum and noticed it could be an altenator issue, i replaced the altenator not too long ago so i doubt that is it. I also took off the IAC and cleaned it well. No improvement. If anything, it now vibrates a little at start up and comes to a rest at a low idle. Is it time for a new IAC? Just dont want to get one if I dont need one...you know? also read at around 120k or so these IAC's go bad...feedback?
I would replace it. If it doesn't need it now it probably soon will. Found the Ford dealer wanted @ $100 for one, but did not have one in stock. Closest one was @100 miles away. I found that odd. After I called around, found that the dealer gets his from the local Car Quest auto parts store. They wanted @ $85. Autozone has the same part for $51 and was in stock. Now after 2 weeks of driving with the new IAC, the truck has never stalled while coming to a stop, but does still idle a little low after it's warmed up.
thanks 351, ever since i got my truck regeared it hasnt wanted to die...weird. But i might get a IAC just in case. Did it help your throttle response at all?
