Tranny fluid Q..
Thanks,
Pat
Another fluid that i've used with success on a Ford Probe was Type F transmission fluid, it allows the clutches not to slip so much and I nticed a difference in shift firmness, down side you had to change this oil quite often. I changed mine every 15,000kms, the filter on its regular change interval
Mercon is supose to be in those yes, as for your c-4, thats the first I've heard, type F was not disirable because it made the transmission shift harder(people did not like that) intended to extend life of the transmission
Type F is kind of an old performance trick for transmission firmness, its old school of the hot rodders and kinda forgotten about.
I will make a note though, its not something I recomond, I did it on my probe cause the transmission was becoming tired with sluggish shift from track racing the car for 3 years. I put on an aditional 40,000kms on that tranny untill I converted the car to a standard.
edit. I reserched and type f has a viscosity of 178 vs dextron/mercon of 130, it is thicker. As well something that surprised me, type F has been known to increase transmiision shudder........I found that of intrest, I'm guessing the shudder is the grabbing action before a complete clutch engagment. I know shudder as the release/grabbing shudder sensation of clutches under high torque. it appears this shudder is the reason mercon came out for smoother shifts but it does say type F does engage the clutches alot more firmer.
