I have an 05 250 and have 35's and 3.73s. I am not happy with the Ford LSD and am thinking about an Air Lockers and might as well go with new gears while we're in there. I tow a gooseneck trailer and tractor that totals about 10K. While I was on the Randy's Ring & pinion site, they say that the 6.0 should be between 1900 and 2400 at 60mph. Is this accurate? Currently I am running less than 1600. 4.10 would put me at 1670 and 4.56 would be 1860. Which would you recommend? Thanks
Do you know the gear ratios of your transmission? I can give you some numbers with a 1:1 (usually drive in an automatic or 4th in a manual).
The final drive ratio of the transmission you're refering to will help determine where the RPM's are at (ie .65 or .70) with the tires you are running.
If you are pulling that kind of weight with 35 inch tires, then 4.56 or 4.88 (if available) would be a good choice IMHO.
I pull 7K lbs. with street-sized tires and 4.10s do the job quite nicely.
I know a few guys running 4.10s on street tires, and a few more who are getting it done.
With 4.56 gears @ 1:1 and your tires, the engine speed will be 2630rpm's @ 60mph. Multiply that times .71 (your final drive ratio of the trans) and I got 1867rpm's. Looks like the numbers you got are good.
