im currently in the middle of putting a 6.9l into my 1970 f250, i need to know what the wires are coming out of the 85 c6, i know 1 must be the neutral safety switch, and the other the backuplight switch, i just need to know what they all are, and which is which, thanks, Dustin
thanks, now how do i bypass the NSS? just ties those two wires together? and how does the b/u light thing work? i have no idea about this newer tranny, the old one didnt have wires, and the NSS was on the column.... Dustin
If you are using the 1970 wiring harness, you need to worry about the original NSS on the column, not the new tranny NSS. If you are still using the column shifter, and it's adjusted correctly, you won't have to do anything. If you are not using the column shifter, then find the NSS wires on the column, and just twist them together. I do not have a wiring diagram for a 70, so I do not know if Ford was using the red/blue color scheme back then, but they did use it for many years(and still do I think). One way to make sure is to look at your starter relay wiring. If the one that goes to the "S" terminal of the original 70 starter relay is red/blue, then you can be sure it's the same.
About the back-up switch. As I said before, if you keep the column shift, you probably don't need to worry about it, if the back-up switch was on the column itself. If it was on the original tranny, then find the wiring plug that should be hanging underneath the truck, and just hook one wire to the back-up switch, and then hook the other wire to the wire left over(the back-up switch wires are the ones that are NOT red/blue).
It doesn't really matter which wire goes to which, since all the switch does is short the two harness wires together to make the lights come on. If you take the wiring plug for the back-up lights, and put a jumper wire across the plug, with the key on, the back-up lights will come on.
Yes. If you are using the original 70 harness, and are using the original 70 wiring that went to the 1970 type starter relay, then you won't need to fool with the later tranny switch at all as far as the neutral safety part.
awesome, now i need to figure out how to wire the B/U switch, seeing as it didnt work on the 70.......i have it wired to a toggle right now, but i either forget to turn it on when backing up, or forget to turn it off when im done lol, thanks again, Dustin
Just take the two wires off the toggle switch, and extend them down to the two wires on the later tranny that are not the NSS switch. If the switch is good, then they will work.
