5 speed automatic transmission question.
Hey all,
I kinda feel like a newb (
) asking this question, but I don't recall ever coming across the following issue in prior vehicles.
My 04X (6.0L) has the 5 speed auto trans ( D 3 2 1 ). When in 3rd, it is ONLY in 3rd. Doesn't start in 1st and then progress to 3rd. It's in 3rd from the start.
The manual states that when in '3' it will only go UP TO 3rd, which leads me to believe that it would progress thru 1st and 2nd. BUT it also states it's for take off in slippery conditions, which would lead be to think it's meant to be in 3rd from the start.
So...which is correct? Does '3' mean '3 only', or does '3' mean 'up to 3'?

The manual is wrong. When the shifter is in 3, that's the only gear you get.
