New to me.... is another flathead 6 out of a 51 car. I went over to my machine shop an there was a guy picking up a rebuilt 302 or had picked it up earlier. The owner of the shop Olie Story told me that Jed the guy who picked up the 302 had a 51 flathead six that runs great but wanted more speed and power. He gave me his number and for $100.00 and 1 mile drive I have another engine to my collection. Now how do I store these until they are ready to put in a truck? Thanks for the help....Kevin
BTW I know you all love the flathead V8's, but I think I will learn everything about the 6's and make them my engine of choice!
I checked with the people who use to split the manifolds, but they no longer do it. Too labor intensive. Would you just run the exhaust down then split it? Bobby give me some advice. My engine will be going back together next week! I will not waste to much time installing once together. I want to drive it to work out the bugs.
Kevin
Kevin,
I'm no expert on it. I just know it sounds good. You should have seen how the PO did it on my truck... ..they had augered out a hole in the exhaust manifold and welded (I used the term very loosely here) a short stub of pipe and then used flex pipe to run dual exhaust....needless to say it didn't sound so good on my truck....lol
Shoot, you got that nice new shop and fancy new tools, maybe you can build yourself a custom exhaust header while you're learning to weld (just an idea)
Oh yea! Definately drive the tar out of it! heck, it could take several years to work out all the bugs...
Well, I just want to be able to drive it to Nationals Bobby. If I'm still unsure of the truck I will put it down on a trailer. Once there I will drive it over to the site. I know the engine will be fine, but the rear axle & Tranny is what I am worried about. Oh, the other thing is how fast I will be able to go. If I can go 65 I'm fine, but I don't know if these big trucks can go that fast. Maybe I will have my friend follow me down in my truck and trailer so if I get tired I can just load it up.
If anyone else has an idea of how to make a flathead six into dual exhaust that sound great please chime in.
