Greetings, I have a 96 Explorer (4.0) with 183K miles. The pulley on the AC compressor stops turning about every 10-15 seconds and then begins turning after the same amount of time. This occurs even when the a/c is turned to 60 degrees. The serp belt continues to run over the pulley.
Would I be better off replacing the bearing, or considering the age/mileage, would it be better to just replace the entire compressor? I realize that this also would mean having to evacuate the system and re-charging.
