Ball joint replacement; what else should I do?

I'm replacing the upper and lower ball joints on my 2000 psd 4x4; is there anything else I should take care of while I have the front end apart?

Since you have to pull the caliper and rotor, it would be a good time for a brake job. You'll also need to pull the auto locking hubs, which are a piece of crap. If you want to spend a little money on a set of Warn hubs this would be a convenient time to put them on. Check your front axle U-joints - now would be a good time to replace them if they are worn. You can't pack your wheel bearings because the stock hub assemblies aren't servicable. Now would be a convenient time to get rid of the junk stock hub assemblies and install the Dynatrac free spin kit which is a much better design and allows you to service/replace the bearings - the kit ain't cheap though. If nothing else, I'd check you hub bearings before you pull the wheels to see it there's any play - if there is, then you might as well replace the assemblies if you don't have the money to spend on the Dynatrac system.

Also - if you go with the Dynatrac kit, it comes with a set of premium Warn hubs.

How about doing mine? Sorry, just couldn't resist. I meant that in a nice and polite way of course

Good luck and let us know how it goes. BTW how many miles on your truck?

Drive Safe,

Dan
