Steering Question

I was wondering if the tie rods and drag link assemblies are interchangeable between a 76' F-150's inverted Y assembly and the 79's separate tie rod/drag link system?
I've got a 76' and would like to put tie rods from a 79'. Thanks.

Yes, they are. I have done this swap twice on both of my 77 F150's. Here is a link to the kit you'll need from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...kit__stock.htmThis kit contains every thing needed to change to the "T" style linkage except for the pitman arm, the "Y" style pitman arm has the nuckle on it and the "T" style has the nuckle on the drag link. Here are a couple of old threads on this:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...n-76-f150.html , and https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...itman-arm.html read post 3 and 6. -Ed

Thanks for the information Ed, but just to be clear when I make the swap I will need a new pitman arm from a 78' or 79'?

I have a '77 F150 4x4 which used the same tie rod and pitman arm setup as the '76. If you change the tie rods to the straight ones from the '78/'79 you must use the '78/'79 pitman arm also. Did the switch on mine, works just fine.
