Not here to debate the type or brand of oil. Just what to get some thoughts on this. Since the truck was new I have been using dino oil 10W-30. 5000 miles ago I switched to Royal Purple 15W-40. As I had read I only put in 13.5 qts and all is good and full. Changed oil the other day and again added RP 13.5 qts. Warmed up truck and checked. 1 qt. low. Drove truck about 70 miles and a day or two later checked oil.........1 qt low.
How come 13.5 qts of dino fill and 13.5 qts of RP is 1 qt low?

That's why you always check.
Could have been that you got more oil out the last time you drained it... maybe the motor was warmer and this allowed more to drain out... maybe you waited longer while it was draining and a little more ran out?
As well, did you pop the lid on the oil filter BEFORE draining your oil pan? This is in the manual and this allows the anti-drain back valve to open and release 1qt into your oil pan? If you popped loose after draining and re-installing your drain bolt, then you had an old quart of oil still in there.
Remember....
1) Loosen oil filter cap
2) Open oil pan drain
3) Let drain
4) Replace oil filter (snap into cap then screw in - use Racor made filters)
That's the way I do it. However I could of let the oil drain longer, due to the fact that while the oil was draining I also changed the air filter and fuel filter.
